• Project RILE

Project RILE began through the University of West Florida and the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition and is my primary research project. Our primary goal is to develop an educational platform based on robot technology to allow students from anywhere in the world to perform physics experiments. This project is currently still in  early development, but has been proven successful during testing at local middle schools. For more information, click on the link below.

  • Local Landscapes.

While much of my photography focuses on my clients and projects, I enjoy capturing local landmarks and scenes. This photo was taken early one morning right next to Navarre Bridge from the mainland. To view more of my local landscape photography, visit the portfolio below.

    Let’s Go!

Engineering Major

After being fascinated by all things electronic while growing up, I explored the engineering field throughout my two years at the University of West Florida. There, I knew that I would major in a technical field, particularly in Computer/Electrical Engineering. Now, I plan to continue my studies at the University of Florida beginning in Fall 2012.

Photographer

Since I got my first camera in 3rd grade, I’ve always been interested in photography. Being unable to draw a straight line, photography provided me a creative outlet to express myself. Since then, it has expanded into a serious hobby and finally into a profiting business. However, I still enjoy photographing my environment and using it as a means of expression.

Researcher

Following my love of science and technology, I began my first true research project at the University of West Florida through the Physics Dept. While I am still involved with that project, RILE, I have also spent time as an Engineering Aid at the Research Lab on Eglin Air Force Base.

Alex Whiteside

Aside from my academic and photographic interests, I enjoy biking, kayaking and walking. I volunteer with various organizations, including B.E.S.T. Robotics, where I mentor middle school students in the design and fabrication of robots, and Florida Youth in Government. I like to expand my horizons and try new things.
